Ubuntu is the most widely used server distribution: for almost every guide on the internet, for Docker, Node.js, Python and most ready-made packages, Ubuntu is the default. The LTS versions receive security updates for five years.
We provide the LTS versions because they are supported for years. You install updates yourself with apt. Switching to a different version requires a reinstallation in the customer portal.
You install most programs with apt. Ubuntu also includes Snap. Some programs are distributed exclusively through it.
Every two years in April, an LTS release is published that receives security updates for five years. The date is set well in advance. This makes it easier to plan maintenance windows.
For Docker, Node.js, Python and the usual ready-made packages, the documentation treats Ubuntu as the standard case. Guides can therefore usually be followed without adjustments.
Ubuntu is based on Debian but provides newer software versions and follows a fixed release schedule. Debian is released when it is ready and is more conservative about changes in return.

Shares the host system's kernel, starts in seconds and is the lower-priced option. Suitable for web servers, databases, applications and Docker.
Minimum term for new orders. After that, the contract continues for an indefinite period and is cancellable with one month's notice. For business customers 12 months, then renewal for twelve months at a time, cancellation with a notice period of three months to the end of the term.
Consumers can withdraw from the contract within fourteen days of its conclusion without giving any reason.
You pay only the monthly price. All prices include VAT.
A .de domain is included in the plan for the entire contract term, not just in the first year.
If you pay twelve months in advance, the price is reduced by 5%. The term is then twelve months. Without a renewal, the contract then continues at the monthly price.
Business customers can choose to pay 24 months (10% discount) or 36 months (15% discount) in advance.
