Valheim crossplay: PC, Xbox, PS5 and Switch 2
Since version 1.0, Valheim brings players on PC, Xbox, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 together in the same world. On our servers, crossplay can be turned on and off.
What crossplay does
Without crossplay, only Steam players can reach the server, via the server list or via address and port. With crossplay, the server also registers in the cross-platform directory of the game and can then also be reached by players on Xbox, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and in the Windows version.
The join code
With crossplay enabled, the server receives a join code. This is a sequence of digits that your players enter in the game under "Join Game". It is the most convenient way, because nobody needs to know an address or port. You find the code in the customer portal.
The code changes every time the server restarts. You find the current code in the customer portal. Steam players can always join via address and port.
Limitations to be aware of
- Ten players. Valheim allows ten simultaneous players. This is a limit of the game and has nothing to do with the plan.
- Mods and crossplay do not work well together. Players on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch cannot install mods. If you use mods that affect gameplay, the group is effectively limited to Steam.
- Same game version. After a game update, players on all platforms need the current version.
- Online subscription on consoles. For online play, players on PlayStation 5 need PlayStation Plus, and players on Nintendo Switch 2 need a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Switching on and off
Crossplay can be turned on and off at any time and takes effect after a restart. The world stays unchanged.
Permissions
You manage the admin, ban and permitted lists in the customer portal. Valheim reloads the lists itself. No restart is required. Banned players are disconnected, and new administrators receive their rights after reconnecting.
