Garry's Mod: enabling the 64-bit server
The Garry's Mod server is available in a 32-bit and a 64-bit version. Your server starts with 32-bit, the default version. You select the 64-bit version in the customer portal as a Steam branch.
The difference
A 32-bit process can address a maximum of 4 GB of RAM. The 64-bit version does not have this limit.
Switching
- In the customer portal, open your Garry's Mod server and the card „Verbindung“ (Connection).
- Next to „Steam-Zweig“ (Steam branch), select the 64-bit version and then „Zweig wechseln“ (Switch branch).
- Before the switch, the server automatically creates a backup. It then starts with the 64-bit version.
You switch back to 32-bit in the same way.
Binary modules
Addons with their own binary modules (files such as gmsv_name_linux.dll) need a separate variant for 64-bit (gmsv_name_linux64.dll). The page of the addon states whether one is available.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I switch back at any time?
- Yes. Both versions are available as branches. The server creates a backup before every switch.
